Lisa Silva McHale, LPC, NCC – Assistant Professor and Clinical Director, Counseling Department, School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Professor McHale coordinates all aspects of fieldwork for the School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling programs. She informs, prepares, and advises counseling students in both programs, and serves as the liaison and contact person for all fieldwork personnel and fieldwork instructors. Before transitioning to this position, Professor McHale served in a similar role as clinical director of the college’s Mental Health Counseling program, since 2015. Lisa has taught various clinical and didactic courses in the Counseling Department since joining Mercy College in 2013 as a Visiting professor. She was an adjunct counseling professor at Long Island University, NY, and is a licensed professional counselor and certified school counselor.
Professor McHale earned her MS degree in Counseling with a specialization in School Counseling and has completed post-graduate coursework in Educational Leadership and Supervision, and Mental Health Counseling. She has worked with children and adolescents, and their families in school and community mental health settings. Professor McHale has advanced training in various therapeutic modalities, including EMDR and Play Therapy. She is finishing her doctoral requirements in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Montclair State University.

Ms. McHale's research interests include personal/professional growth, supervision, transitions throughout the lifespan, MH counseling in the schools, counselor self-care, and integrating Complementary and Alternative Modalities (CAM) into counseling and counselor education. Her dissertation research is on women and growth through later-life divorce
