Program Overview
Bachelor of Science in Teaching Students with Disabilities, B-12 program, powered by BloomBoard, provides on-the-job-based bachelor's degrees for pre-service teacher candidates, working as paraprofessionals or support staff in schools. Candidates who have an associate degree and are currently working in a school can enroll in the program as part of a cohort sponsored by a school district.
The program includes 39 credit hours of major coursework in education and 21 credit hours of elective coursework. While in the undergraduate program, students take 15 credit hours of graduate courses that go towards a bachelor's degree but can also be applied to a master's degree. Most candidates complete this program in 2 years after transferring to Mercy with 60 credits or an associate's degree.
Candidates earning this bachelor’s degree and passing all required certification assessments are eligible for New York’s Students with Disabilities (All Grades) certificate.
Candidates may begin this program in the fall, spring or summer semester, pending available seats.

Application Requirements
The Bachelor of Science in Teaching Students with Disabilities, B-12 program, is currently only being offered in partnership with school districts, educational service centers, or other educational organizations. Prospective students must have been pre-selected by their employer and received an Invitation to Apply in order to apply this program.
Application requirements include:
- Students must transfer an associate degree from an accredited institution.
- Official transcripts must be sent to Mercy University prior to registration. Unofficial transcripts can be sent during the application process in order to receive preliminary approval.
- Students must have a 2.5 undergraduate GPA for admission, and must graduate the program with a 2.5 GPA in order to be recommended for certification.
