Dr. Moddie V. Breland Jr. has been a full-time faculty member at Mercy University Libraries since 2016 and is currently the Director of Libraries. As Director of Libraries, Dr. Breland is responsible for providing leadership in operational planning and the formulation and implementation of goals, policies, and procedures for library services. Dr. Breland earned his BS in biology and religion from Bates College, Masters of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary, Masters of Science in Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.
Dr. Breland has over 15 years of managerial experience in academic libraries. Prior to working at Mercy, he served as Multimedia Commons manager at Benjamin Rosenthal Library of Queens College (CUNY) and as Technical Services librarian at Lougheed Library of St. Thomas Aquinas College. Since joining Mercy, he has served as Reference and Instruction librarian, Head Librarian of the Bronx campus, and library liaison to the School of Education. Dr. Breland’s scholarly interests are in information technology, library professional development, and the relationship between library instruction and student success.
