The Office of Information Technology is excited to launch Microsoft Teams Phone at Mercy University.
Teams Phone is Microsoft’s next-generation telephony platform that uses AI and machine learning to transform how we connect and collaborate. You can make and receive calls directly from your Teams app on desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet, whether you’re on campus, working remotely or on the go.
Teams Phone will be rolled out to departments and individuals over the next 12 months.

Microsoft Teams Phone is a cloud-based telephony solution, fully integrated with your existing Teams environment. It enables users to make, receive and transfer calls right from Microsoft Teams, leveraging the same interface you already use for chats, meetings and collaboration.

The rollout of Microsoft Teams Phone will take place in phases over the next several months. Here’s what to expect:
- Organization-wide Deployment: Following the pilot, all employees will be transitioned to Teams Phone in a scheduled manner.
- Training Sessions: Training and resources will be provided to ensure a smooth transition.
- Watch for emails and updates from IT regarding your migration date.
- Test your Teams Phone setup once enabled and report any issues to our IT Helpdesk.
- Provide feedback to help us continually improve this new service.
All employees currently using the existing phone system (Cisco IP Desk Phone) will be migrated to Microsoft Teams Phone. Additional users can be added upon request as needed.
A new Teams Phone number will be assigned to users. Your old Cisco IP Phone number will be auto-forwarded to your new Teams Phone number for a period of 12 months.
Once you get access to Teams Phone, we recommend you begin advertising your new Teams Phone number in your email signature etc.
You can use Teams Phone on your desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet. USB headsets are also compatible.
Once enabled, you’ll see a "Calls" tab within your Teams app. You can dial directly, search for contacts, answer incoming calls, and access voicemail from this tab.
Absolutely. Teams Phone allows you to make and receive external calls, like a traditional phone system—just with more flexibility.
Voicemail is fully integrated with Microsoft Teams. You’ll receive notifications for new messages and can listen to voicemails from your app or via email (with transcription, where available).
Yes. Teams Phone uses Microsoft’s secure cloud infrastructure, with encryption and compliance built in to protect your communication.
Old Cisco IP desk phones will be phased out and collected by IT.
OIT will provide quick-start guides and video tutorials. Hands-on support will be available throughout the rollout.
