Susan C Gaskin-Noel

  • Assistant Professor, Libraries
  • Reference and Instruction Librarian + Web Manager

Ms. Gaskin-Noel began her professional academic career at Mercy University in January 2000. Hired as a Reference and Instruction Librarian, she also soon became the Libraries' Webmaster, a function she continues, maintaining the libraries' web presence, working closely with her colleagues to provide the University community the resources needed to satisfy their research needs, with an emphasis on remote and mobile access. This is an iterative process that is constantly being worked on and improved.

Ms. Gaskin-Noel is also an Adjunct Professor for the School of Health and Natural Sciences, having taught all sections of Introduction to Health Professions Literature (HLSC 225) and Scientific Writing (HLSC 402) for many years.  She also taught the libraries' course Using the Web for Research (HLSC 260) for several years. Additionally over the years, as Mercy University Libraries moved to a Learning Commons model, their information literacy teaching model also moved to a more personalized rather than one-shot class session, and Ms. Gaskin-Noel has embraced these individual consultations as an opportunity to work more closely with students one-on-one from the start to the end of their projects, as well as to build lasting professional relationships throughout their student lives at Mercy University.

As the Libraries' Liaison to the School of Health and Natural Sciences, Ms. Gaskin-Noel enjoys an especially close working relationship with the faculty and students in that school. Additionally, her role as the administrator/trainer for several resources, including LibGuidesRefWorks, and REDCapallows her even more opportunities to build relationships both in the libraries as well as across the entire community.
