Private & Endowed Scholarships

Assists Mercy University seniors who are within prospect of graduation but through some economic or personal crisis, face the possibility of having to drop out of college. The Daddy Short Legs Fund makes it possible for Mercy University students to advance toward graduation despite financial concerns. This scholarship is a one-time award and does not cover tuition but the funds can be used to cover transportation, childcare and other expenses. Daddy Short Legs Application

Established in 2023 by the Ronnenberg family in honor and memory of Francis Griffin Ronnenberg, who served on Mercy University’s Board of Trustees (1999-2010). The scholarship provides tuition assistance for graduates and undergraduates.

This scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the student body to help defray travel expenses anywhere in the world, preferably to a major university or educational institution, while undertaking an approved study project. The scholarship(s) will be awarded on a basis of a competition involving the submission of project essays. The scholarship was founded by Mortimer Levitt, founder and president of The Custom Shop.

These partial scholarships are awarded to a freshman, a sophomore, and a junior based on academic merit. Each student must be on the Summa Cum Laude track and be nominated by a Mercy faculty. The award is renewable with continued academic excellence. Scholarship funding was made available by Mortimer Levitt.

Business and Accounting

Established in 2020 by Dr. Estrella Lopez-Sweetser and Elliott Sweetser to provide scholarship assistance for undergraduate students in the School of Business. Preference will be given to students who self-identify as Hispanic.

Education

For five-year B.S./M.S. undergraduates. A $2,500 scholarship each school year to one student committed to pursue a career as a special education teacher. The School of Education will make a call for applications each year. Please contact Mary Ellen Hoffman at 914-674-7334 for more information.

Health Professions

A partial scholarship awarded annually to a student in the natural sciences who has maintained academic excellence.

The Biology Scholarship will provide support for students in their junior and senior years who are Biology majors.

Annual scholarship award for a Mercy University student enrolled in the Veterinary Technology undergraduate degree program, who has shown outstanding work in high school years, or maintains a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship will be awarded to students of Corsican/Italian or German/Prussian heritage. International students are ineligible. The student awardee must be the first or second generation in their family to attend college and must be a commuter student. Preference for eligible student awardees should be given to students who serve or served honorably in the U.S. military; students who serve or served as a volunteer in a local fire department or ambulance corps; students whose parents or grandparents serve or served honorably in the U.S. military, law enforcement—police, fire, paramedic, or EMT. Student awardee must send acknowledgement of the award to the donor. Student awardees are encouraged to re-apply each year for a maximum of four years.

Liberal Arts

This is an annual scholarship for a student entering his senior year and majoring in history. Recipients must be a Yonkers resident and shall be chosen on the basis of academic excellence, community service and financial need.
