Faculty-Student Mentorship Program

A college professor-student mentorship refers to a mentoring relationship between a college professor and an undergraduate student. This type of mentorship provides guidance, support, and advice specific to the academic and professional development of the mentee within the university setting. This service is available to all undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in psychology.

How It Works

In a college professor-student mentorship, the mentor is typically an experienced faculty member with expertise in the student's field of study or a related area. The mentorship can take various forms, such as one-on-one meetings, regular check-ins, or a more structured mentoring program like the one offered by the Psychology Department at Mercy University.

The benefits of having a college professor mentor are significant. Professors can provide insights into the academic discipline, help with research opportunities, advise on course selection and academic planning, and offer guidance on career paths and graduate school options. They can also assist with networking by connecting mentees to other professionals and researchers in the field.

Dr. Jackie Fisher

Hello! I’m Dr. Jackie Fisher, Assistant Professor of Psychology. I’m an applied developmental psychologist with a specialization in forensic psychology. When I graduated from undergrad, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do, but I knew that I was passionate about Psychology! After grad school, I worked in the non-profit world for 10 years, where I did research and advocated for better mental health support for teens. I made a career change five years ago to academia and have never looked back. I’ve loved all of my different experiences as a psychologist and look forward to helping you map out your career goals and journey! Click on me to schedule your first mentoring appointment!
