About the Program
Launch Your Career in a NYC Public School
Mercy University has partnered with NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) to develop a teacher residency program as part of the New York State Department of Labor Empire State Teacher Residency Program. The program is designed to support teacher residents as they earn clinical experience in a NYC Public Schools classroom and provides an annual stipend.
Mercy students save over 50% on tuition during their residency.
- Residents will receive a Mercy University tuition discount ($490 per credit) for their academic program
- During their residency placement year in a priority NYC school district, residents will also receive an annual stipend of $30,000 while completing 1,000 hours of clinical experience at an NYCPS school.
- Residents will also make a 2-year commitment to teaching at NYCPS upon completing their residency experience.
*To be eligible, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree and cannot have previously attended a teacher preparation program.
Mercy University's School of Education Offers the Following Residency Programs:
- MS in Adolescence Education (Math, Biology, English, Social Studies content areas) with Teaching Students with Disabilities (i.e. Adolescence Ed Dual-Cert.)
- MS in Adolescence Education (Math, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science content areas)
- MS in Childhood Education with Teaching Students with Disabilities (i.e. Childhood Dual-Cert.)
- MS in Early Childhood Education with Childhood Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities (i.e. Early Childhood Tri-Cert)
MS in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
