About the Program

Launch Your Career in a NYC Public School

Mercy University has partnered with NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) to develop a teacher residency program as part of the New York State Department of Labor Empire State Teacher Residency Program. The program is designed to support teacher residents as they earn clinical experience in a NYC Public Schools classroom and provides an annual stipend.

Mercy students save over 50% on tuition during their residency.

  • Residents will receive a Mercy University tuition discount ($490 per credit) for their academic program
  • During their residency placement year in a priority NYC school district, residents will also receive an annual stipend of $30,000 while completing 1,000 hours of clinical experience at an NYCPS school.
  • Residents will also make a 2-year commitment to teaching at NYCPS upon completing their residency experience.

*To be eligible, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree and cannot have previously attended a teacher preparation program.
