Mercy College SSBS Dean Elected to Board of the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NYSCASA)
Mercy College Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences Karol Dean was recently elected to the board of the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NYSCASA). The coalition’s mission is to end all forms of sexual violence and exploitation as well as address the impacts of sexual assault.
Every state has a coalition against sexual assault that serves by coordinating local rape crisis centers, developing programming to support improvement and channeling funding.
The importance of the NYSCASA and the services to the community it provides are very meaningful to Dean. “I am quite honored to participate on this board after having served as a hotline counselor for two rape crisis centers starting when I was in college, and having served on the board of Pittsburgh Action Against Rape,” said Dean.
Since 1982 Dean’s activist and scholarly efforts have focused on anti-rape work. Dean has worked with three rape crisis centers (both as volunteer counselor and board member) and has published and presented in scholarly venues about sexual assault perpetration, campus sexual assault and rape reduction and prevention.
Dean recently began her three-year term on the board and attended her first meeting this month in Albany. For more information about the NYSCASA, click here.
