Mercy College President's Message

MC seal

Dear Mercy College Faculty,

I want to provide all of you with updated information on an outside labor organization, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and its efforts to unionize Mercy’s adjunct faculty. SEIU has petitioned the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to schedule an election and the NRLB will be sending out ballots to all Mercy adjunct faculty on April 17th.

I also want to share exciting news that under the terms of our agreement with The College of New Rochelle a budget was approved by the Mercy Board of Trustees Finance and Control Committee that will bring the lowest paid adjunct salaries from $2,200 to $3,000 this coming fall. This, along with some other adjunct salary increases at different levels, will align salaries with those of incoming adjuncts from The College of New Rochelle. I encourage you to watch the video below (or read key messages from video here) to learn more about this salary increase and where Mercy College stands on this issue of unionization.

As I stated above, ballots will be sent on April 17th and must be submitted by May 1st. Click here to view the NLRB Notice of Election. It is important for everyone to vote to ensure the majority voice is heard. I also invite you to visit https://www.mercy.edu/adjunct-organizing-information for more information about the voting process, where Mercy stands on the union and some important information about SEIU for you to consider.

Sincerely,

Tim Hall
President
