Mercy College Offers First Accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Degree in Westchester County
The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) awarded full accreditation to Mercy College for their clinical laboratory science program (CLS). This CLS program will help meet the significant shortage of health care professionals in Westchester County as well as New York State.
The CLS program at Mercy College is a four year program that consists of 129 credits with three years of general education, basic and advanced science courses, followed by a clinical year that combines professional internships at regional hospital laboratories with didactic coursework. The first three-year sequence of college-based courses prepares students for the clinical rotations while the fourth year of the program is a combination of clinical course work on campus and full-day hospital based clinical rotations.
“Through the clinical laboratory science degree, Mercy College is providing students with an excellent opportunity for career placement,” said Michelle Naylor, Program Director, clinical laboratory science. “Currently, there is a shortage of trained medical clinical diagnostic scientists available to staff laboratories and this degree provides a fantastic pipeline to a successful career.”
