Mercy College hosted a Virtual Community Event on Wednesday, June 16 to celebrate Juneteenth. The discussion included Robert Murray, Mercy College Professor of History, David Collins, Director of Trio-SSSP, a program that works with underrepresented populations in higher education and Nakia James-Jenkins, M.S. ’01 partner at On-Ramps executive search firm.
The event was moderated by Edie Magnus, Executive Director of Media and Innovation. Each participant shared their perspective on the historical significance of Juneteenth, rituals related to the observance, the importance of marking this date as well as reflections in light of the past year and the role of the federal government, educational institutions and employers in recognizing this day as a holiday.
