Mercy College Announces New Member of the Board of Trustees

Mercy College Board of Trustees Chairman Bruce J. Haber announced that Gary A. Bernstein has been re-elected to the Board of Trustees. Bernstein spent more than 30 years with IBM in various roles and previously served as a member of the Mercy College Board of Trustees from 2007-2013.

“The Board and I are looking forward to working with Gary to help further Mercy College’s vision and provide opportunities to the students we all care so much about,” said Haber. “Gary will play an instrumental role on our Academic and Student Affairs Committee and the Endowment Management Committee.”

“I am honored to be rejoining the Mercy College Board of Trustees,” said Bernstein. “I am deeply committed to helping the College achieve its mission of providing an education to all students.”

Mercy College President Tim Hall said, “I am excited that Gary has been re-elected to the Board of Trustees. He has been an important member of our community for more than 20 years and his experience, loyalty and knowledge will be a great asset to the Board and to Mercy College.”

Bernstein began his career at Price Waterhouse and went on to spend more than 30 years at IBM, most recently serving as vice president of Finance Transformation and Talent Development. For the past several years, Bernstein has been a full-time assistant professor in the School of Business M.B.A. program and has been an adjunct business professor for more than 20 years at Mercy College. He received the Mercy College Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Trustees’ Scholarship Dinner.

A Certified Public Accountant, Bernstein earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Drexel University and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He has been married to his wife, Susan, for more than 40 years, and has two daughters, a son and a granddaughter.
