Mercy Athletics Director to Serve on D2 ADA National Board of Directors
Mercy College Director of Athletics Matt Kilcullen Jr. has been selected to serve on the Division II Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA) national board of directors, beginning his first year of a three-year term in 2018-19.
“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the D2 ADA Board of Directors. I look forward to working with our colleagues in improving the academic and athletic experiences for our student athletes," stated Kilcullen.
Kilcullen was selected to the board during the annual convention in Washington, D.C., and will be serving on the board for the first time. Kilcullen is the only athletic director from the East Coast Conference on the board of directors and enters his fifth year as athletic director at Mercy.
The Mavericks had one of their most successful years in 2017-18 under Kilcullen, academically, athletically and in the community. The department posted a school-record 3.278 cumulative GPA in the fall of 2017 and finished with a 3.265 GPA in the spring of 2018. 130 student-athletes finished with over a 3.25 GPA during the spring of 2018.
Three teams ended the season nationally-ranked, highlighted by women's soccer who ended the year at No. 3 nationally after advancing to the program's first-ever Final Four. Also ending the year nationally ranked were women's lacrosse (No. 13) and men's lacrosse (No. 18) and women's soccer, women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, softball and men's soccer all reached the ECC Tournament, with women's soccer winning their second ECC Championship.
In the community, the department volunteered more than 800 hours during the fall and spring semesters. One of the many highlights in the community for the department was women's lacrosse receiving the Friend of Abbott House Award for their weekly work with developmentally disabled adults.
