A Tribute to Joseph P. Kelleher, H.D. ’22
The Mercy Community suffered a great loss with the passing of Joseph P. Kelleher, H.D. ’22 in November 2022. Kelleher was a true friend to Mercy College and advocate for education. He was an experienced business executive with an extensive background in real estate development and philanthropy. He was appointed president and chief operating officer of Hutch Management LLC in 2009 and previously served as the executive director of leasing and property management for the 42-acre Hutchinson Metro Center in Bronx, New York, home to the Mercy College Bronx Campus. In 2012, Mercy honored Kelleher with the Bronx Leadership Award at the Annual Bronx Dinner. In July 2022, Mercy bestowed an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree to Kelleher for his outstanding achievement in his field and exceptional contributions to his community.
A Tribute to Paul Trent, Associate Professor Emeritus of Speech
The Mercy College Community mourned the loss of Associate Professor Emeritus of Speech Paul Trent, in early October 2022. Trent earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Kentucky, an MFA. from the Yale University School of Drama, and an M.A. in Cinema Studies at New York University.
After starting his teaching career at Rhode Island College, he arrived at Mercy College in 1968, retiring in 2019. Over his long career at Mercy, he taught for decades in theater, film, speech and oral communication, among other domains. He also served as program director of Speech Communication in the Division of Literature, Language and Communication and as faculty advisor for the Media Studies Program. He was also among the founders of the Film Studies Program, and, for a time, he taught in the Health Services Management Program.
