Testing Services
Placement Test
The principle function of the Testing Office is to administer the College's placement test to all incoming and transfer students for the purpose of admitting and class placement. The Testing Office is responsible for placement tests at all five campuses.
Mercy College uses the ACCUPLACER Online placement test to determine if a prospective student meets Mercy College standards of admittance and to determine their placement into English and Math courses. ACCUPLACER Online uses sophisticated technology to provide accurate and efficient measurement of students' knowledge and skills. It uses computerized-adaptive testing technology to select specific test questions that are best suited for each particular test taker. This "tailoring" of the test for each student allows for accurate diagnosis of students' knowledge and skills using fewer items than are typically required in traditional "paper-and-pencil" tests.
To familiarize yourself with the placement test please visit the ACCUPLACER Introduction for Students

CLEP Exam
CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States, with more than 2,900 colleges and universities awarding credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams. Since 1967, five million people--adults returning to college, graduating high school seniors, and enrolled college students--have earned college credit through CLEP. With CLEP a student can earn college credit for what she or he already knows--regardless of where or how that knowledge was required--by passing a 90 minute multiple choice examinations.

CISC120 Waiver Test
The Division of Math and Computer Information Science has developed a new CISC/MATH 120 Waiver test. This test is designed to ascertain if students know enough about Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to work at a responsible full-time job. This test will also ascertain your knowledge of basic computer concepts, like basic hardware (such as input devices, output devices, communications devices, storage devices, etc.), basic software, basic communications and networking concepts, computer privacy, security and ethics. This test will require you to actually use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It also tests what a college graduate should know about computers. The test requires knowledge equivalent to someone who completed CISC/MATH120 with an acceptable grade.
Many students seem to think that, if they can do e-mail, download music, use Instant Messenger and type an occasional paper, they know enough to use a computer at a responsible job. This is not the case since business requires complex documents, spreadsheets with numerous formulae and professional presentations. This new waiver test is designed to test a subset of these skills.
In order to help you prepare for the test, copies of both of the MATH/CISC 120 books have been placed on reserve in all libraries. You may use these books IN THE LIBRARY to prepare for the test. If you have questions, please contact the Math/CS office at 914-674-7536.
CISC120 waiver test information:
- Call 914-674-7358 to schedule the test
- Must purchase a permit from the bookstore ($15)
- On the day of the test must arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the test
- Students that are late will be rescheduled
- The exam is 90 minutes
- Passing score is a 70
- Students will not be allowed to retest
