MERCY COLLEGEHealth Professions
Our Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine faculty has developed unique relationships with local hospitals where clinical education has an interdisciplinary focus from day one. Our Occupational Therapy faculty has implemented the revolutionary problem-based learning model developed at McMaster University. Our Nursing faculty has focused its attention and resources exclusively on the educational needs of the returning RN. Our Communication Disorders Department includes both baccalaureate and master's options and provides campus-based care to both children and adults with speech and hearing problems. Our Physical Therapy program is offered in an intensive weekend format to meet the needs of qualified students who might not otherwise be able to attend graduate school. Our Physician Assistant program, offered at the graduate level, is a model program noted for its emphasis on research. The Division also offers associate degrees in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) and Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Programs. Students and faculty in our associate degree programs develop close working relationships to maximize success. The OTA and PTA programs articulate with our new BS degree in Health Sciences, designed to prepare students to enter graduate programs in a variety of health professions. The BS in Health Sciences major includes coursework in the humanities, social and natural sciences and our anatomy and physiology courses are offered both with and without cadaver labs. The Division also offers a wide variety of Continuing Education courses for health professionals.
